The good news is that I have been busy with client work for the last 6 - 8 weeks, that can also be bad news. Sounds strange doesn't it, I'm not complaining. Being busy is much better than the alternative. So what is the down side to being busy you might wonder.
Only So Many Hours in a Day:
Being busy with work can take away time from other activities. I'm not just talking about going to my kids Little League practices. I'm talking about prospecting for new work. As a the sole employee of Zajon, I am my sales force. That means I need to work on current client projects and look for the next project.
When I'm not busy, that is easy. I'm always looking for more work, but when things get really busy, setting aside time for sales/prospecting seems to slip down to a lower priority. It is easy to let it slip off the radar.
What is my solution:
I use Outlook to set up a recurring task. Three days a week at 11:30 I get a reminder to make a sales call. It doesn't need to be a cold call, I can send an email or call existing clients. Check out other companies on line looking for projects. I just try and do something sales related.
I find the regular "nag" by Outlook to to be a useful reminder. Even if I close the pop-up window that is telling me to prospect for more work, the thought is now in the front part of my brain and I do something.
When you get busy don't forget to continue to dedicate time to sales/prospecting. If you find it hard to do so like me, then try nagging yourself about it. It works!
