Web Pages Should Be Written For Customers
Your website should be written for the people who will be reading the pages. If it is stuffed with keywords and contains stilted content visitors will leave your site after looking at only one page.Bounce Rate
If you want to see if this is happening to you. If you use Google Analytics, you can look at your bounce rate for Keyword traffic sources. For terms that are directly related to your product and pages a good bounce rate is anything under 50% (30% or lower is great).
For searches that are tangentially related to your product (sometimes called long tail searches) bounce rates of 70% are acceptable, and anything under 50% is very good.
Branded searches (searches for your company brand names) should have a bounce rate under 30%.
Bounce Rate: The percentage of single-page visits compared to visits of more than one page (i.e. visits in which the person left your site after looking at only one page).
Other indicators of success for your web pages is the average page visits, or your conversion rates.
Next week I'll talk about what you should do with your web pages to improve your bounce rate.
