Promoting Your Website

Internet Marketing Basics
There is nothing magical about marketing and promoting your website. Like any other product, a website needs to be perceived as providing value to the customer greater than the cost.

Determining a Website's Value?

Websites fall into three categories:
  1. Sales
  2. Entertainment
  3. Information
People visit your website for one or more of those purposes.

Value of Sales Websites
If your site offers products or services for sale, then you need to identify what is the value of your site?
  • Are items available at lower cost than elsewhere?
  • Is it more convenient  that brick and mortar stores?
  • Is it easier to use than other sites?
  • Is it the only place to get one of a kind items?

Value of Entertainment Websites
If your site offers entertainment what is it's value?
  • Does it offer a unique experience?
  • A large community of users?
  • Wide variety of games?
Value of Informational Websites
If your site offers information what give it value?
  • Is information available before other  sites get it?
  • Is the content better?
  • Does the site have more content?
Identify what makes your site unique and valuable to your clients.

Once you have identified your website's value, make sure to include that in the promotional material. If you think your site has more than one value, pick one as the main item to promote. You can promote more than one benefit of your site, but make one more prominent than the others.

Keep in mind that people are motivated by benefits not features. If you have one stop shopping don't tout that "We have all your Widget Needs." Market your site by saying "Save Time and Money".
