Three simple methods to promote an event.
There is nothing magical about promoting an event. To get people to show up you need to advertise and let people know what is happening. Here are three ways to promote your event through social media, other than tweeting about it.
1) Facebook
Ideally you have created a Facebook page for your business. If so then you can invite all your company's followers.
Remember to invite yourself. That way you can mark yourself as attending and all your FB friends will see the event.
If you don't yet have a page for your business, you can still create an event. When you create an event Facebook lets invite your friends. If you have create groups for your FB friends, this can make it easier to pick which ones you want to invite. - My nieces and nephews on the west coast are probably not going to attend a seminar on Local Search, but some of my business contacts will.
2) LinkedIn
Promote the event on LinkedIn.
Go to http://events.linkedin.com/ and click on the "Add Event" button. It is located on the right side of the page, below "Search Events".
After entering the basic information (date, time, location) click on the "Add More Details" link. Here you can add a description, select a category to describe he event, pick a business industry and add more information to help people find your event.
If you have a web page that offers more details about the event, then create a shortened link (bit.ly) to the that page and include it in your event or post the link in your profile or on any appropriate groups you belong.
3) Meetup.com
Meetup.com is a website, for groups who get together on a regular basis, to promote their events. It is not free, but costs start at $5 / month. If you are part of a group that meets regularly then this might be a good place to promote your group and events.
